How Leak Detection Actually Works
Acoustic, thermal, tracer gas and moisture methods explained, and when each is the right tool.
Leak detection is elimination, not magic. Each method answers a different question: where is water escaping under pressure (acoustic), where is a surface wet or cold (thermal, moisture), where is a void carrying water (tracer gas), and which run is losing pressure (isolation testing).
The skill is sequencing. A thermal scan can show a cold streak, but only moisture readings confirm it is wet rather than insulated differently. An acoustic hit can point to a pipe, but correlation between two points turns a sound into a position.
Good detection ends in documentation: what was found, what it means, what remains uncertain and what to do next. If a report does not separate those, it is a guess with photographs.
